Mucchio Classic Rock #4 - Hard Rock (1968-1975) Top 20 Albums

In the electric ladyland we like hard rock

Fourth rock history lesson, courtesy of italian magazine Il Mucchio. After Punk, New Wave and Dark/Gothic this time we play Hard Rock old style.

On the magazine, Gianni Della Cioppa wrote:
"Strange is the destiny of hard rock. In its heyday, from 1968 to 1973, when Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Uriah Heep got thousands of fans and ruled charts all over the world, critics didn't care about it. In the second half of the 70s, punk demolished it: it became the symbol of artists inflated, lost in their virtuosistic masturbations. In the 80s, the song remained the same: hard rock was appointed as the father of the behatred heavy metal and, worse, of adult oriented american rock. Suddenly, at the end of the decade, it came grunge: and hard rock (at least, a kind of it) got a new evaluation. People started talking about Led Zeppelin, artists spent a lot of references to Black Sabbath and tributes to Grand Funk Railroad, everybody remembered Blue Cheer and Iron Butterfly. Even Humble Pie, Dust, Mountain and Ted Nugent got homages. For many critics, maybe, hard rock won't ever be trustworthy. But you can't deny you can find its influences almost everywhere: from punk to dark, from grunge to industrial".
